Title: Feature freeze stage for 2.3 release

Again about 2.3.

What current state of 2.3 release? Whats exact bugs must be fixed and what exact functionality should be added before we will be able to branch 2.3-stable and create release?

I know about one feature — savesystem-break from geever. Is there any other must-have feature?

Let`s officially stop adding new, especially big features to the game? We already have some big patches postnoted to the 2.4 (like medikits and new reaction fire). We can add other big patches to this milestone and finish 2.3 without additional work to bug hunting and fixing.

from my side the only thing that stops us from creating the 2.3 branch are the missing ufopedia articles.

once they arrived we have to give the translators some time to sync up, and then release 2.3 - even if there are minor bugs left - we have to release 2.3 to get more attention and feedback.

What about
- creating some 'facts only' articles
- declaring campaign mode as incomplete
- release 2.3 as skirmish & MP only
- deliver the 'nice' articles as 2.3.1 ?

One more thing we should do before release — look to all menus and UI to check any inconsistencies and glitches.

I'm newbie here, but I agree a lot with this sort of things: main menu is on right, but when you load games is on left.. and so on :( how can I help?

Edit: better, we have a place on forum where talk about "UI" sot of things?

In case you want UI bugs sorted out, then this bug tracker item (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2981899&group_id=157793&atid=805242) should be fixed to get it out of the way. The forum thread for it is here. (http://ufoai.ninex.info/forum/index.php?topic=4555.0) Though perhaps it should be moved to the 2.3. bugs subforum?

This I disagree with, 2.3 campaign - if bugs are fixed - is quite playable to a point, and if it was taken out for 2.3 it would be a step back, players who had 2.2.1 would ask where it went.  That and 2.3 already has many new features for single player campaign that would be good to show off.

Most definitely NOT skirmish only. There are a LOT of people who like to play single player and for them the campaign is of paramount importance. Remove that and they will be gone forever from the potential or actual player base. I know I'd drop this game without a second thought if the campaign was removed.

The campaign as it now stands is a damn sight more than what was in 2.2.1 and it just keeps getting better with development.

When I wrote

I actually meant:
- release 2.3 as skirmish & MP & 'incomplete' campaign
- deliver the remainder for campaign asap
Of course I never meant to remove campaign mode.

We could also realease the above as 2.2.9 if that sounds better.

The alternative is wait...wait...wait until those articles arrive...

The remainder of the campaign involves a lot more than just articles. It also involves maps, models and code.

Then let's get too it!

I'm still working hard on the new soldier models and have some work I just haven't uploaded yet - I'm itching to get them into the game hopefully by the very next release after 2.3.

One thing that I think really needs work though, is the RMA map stuff - I still tend to have missions in the arctic where there is a convenience store in the middle of nowhere, sometimes with a farm barn holding a cow in it as well on another tile.

You can tweak that yourself if you want to. Take a look at maps.ufo to see what the conditions for the various maps are, and the geoscape terrain tyes (http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Mapping/Terrain_Types) to see where the areas are.

For 2.3, yes. I was talking about the whole campaign, as in up to the point where you beat the aliens.
