when i was 13 my dad bought me a copy of Xcom UFO and i loved that and beat it but to this day i love the whole concept and just recently found this, I tried and completed the full release 2.2.1 i think it is and have downloaded the developers release now and was playing around with it but i have a quick question what happened to the tactical view its all screwy now it was fine in 2.2.1 but it looks like stuff was removed or something and my mouse lags like hell on it...plus why where the keys for movement changed? anyways im seriously not trying to put anyone down Im just curious what happened...

Sounds like something went bad with your install. What you should do is uninstall the game (including the game user profile files) and reinstall with the latest or near-latest install. If you want a 3D Geoscape with working night/day, get revision 29004, if you're happy with 2D Geoscape, get the latest one.
You can change the keybindings by going to the user profile folders and modifying the keys.cfg file. The syntax is easy and you can find more information and links in one of the FAQs.

ok this is wierd the download link that i used was from april 3rd of this month but it doesnt seems to be the reslease number you said anyways the geoscape isnt the problem its just when i get into tactical view my mouse gets really lagy and thanks for the tip about the key bindings.

2.3 does a little more than 2.2.1, so it might be a bit laggy on older or relatively slow machines.
What are your HW specs ?

Don't forget that 2.3 has a different renderer also.

well i kinda doubt that its because my hardware isnt good enough i am running a 2.6 ghz quad core processor with 3 gig of ram and a 256mg video card running windows xp.... and i dont know what it means that it has a different renderer....

A 2.6 quad is good enough, so it's something special about you configuration.
There were others who reported laggy mouse cursors. Plz use forum search.
For 'rendering' see wikipedia (*very* interesting articles btw); in a nutshell it's: better graphics = more cpu usage.

ok i tried doing a forum search for laggy mouse fixes but it doesnt give me anything...i tried a variation too...im stumped again

ok i will give that a go but one more thing where do i find the latest dev release? preferably pre packaged because im not sure i know how to compile it...

ok Ive got another quick question are alien bases implemented in the latest dev release? and if so how the hell do you find them? Also is XVI implemented in the latest dev release? and if so what triggers it because im well into my 3rd year and still havent even seen a zombie....

Tad yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. All the stuff in 2.2.1 is in 2.3 we dont delete features we add and improve. And by we i mean the admins

Yeah I was so glad to find a copy of UFO X-Com at a computer shop that sold old games and 2nd hand items. I paid 3 bucks for it, original package. It was all able to fit into a thumb drive
