Title: Windows 7 64bit and Making Money
Post by: Dragonlord on February 10, 2010, 02:03:12 pm
This is about two things.  First off I was using windows 7 64 bit and was getting kicked out of the battlescape very often so I changed to windows 7 32 bit and it helped stop the battlescape kickout.  Second I am playing on the easy mode for right now but I have noticed that in order to make money you have to build the sam at 25,000c but you get 50,000c when you sell them.  Right now I have my workers making 30 of them for selling.  I have two bases with 50 workers. Base 1 has two work shops and it takes them 51 hrs per sam.  Base 2 has 3 work shops and it takes them 21 hrs per sam.  When I find something valuable then I will start making that.  Just a idea about money problems.

When producing items for selling, you should also keep in mind
- the upkeep of the workshop and
- the salary of the workers !
Not to mention the investment in building the shop.

In 2.2.1 it was in general NOT profitable to run workshops only for selling. Didn't check for 2.3.

In the current 2.3 producing an AA51 SAM Launcher costs 2500, and you can sell it for 4500. Producing takes 201h with 10 workers...

That's roughly 4 launchers per month. What's the salary of the 10 workers ?

10 workers = 20000/month
1 workshop = 3200/month (running cost only)

- 10000 (4x2500, produce cost)
  18000 (4x4500, sell price)
- 20000 (10 workers salary)
-   3200 (workshop running cost)
----------------------------------------
- 15200 profit?

Exactly. You're losing money.

However, if the workshop you need anyway to produce new tech items for your troops is idle for a while, it makes sense to produce items for selling until the next tech is researched.

And I like this aspect of the design :)

I am looking at the prices and the AA51 Missile Launcher cost 25000c to make and 50000c to sell.  Check the 2.23 dev. game. I do not mean check the code. Check the actual game.

you must have an old version even if it's 2.3-dev already.

ps. I haven't check the code either. But the actual game which is SVN/trunk r28534.

@geever
he said that he is using version 2.23 not 2.3

@Dragonlord
this isnt a problem right now because the version you are using is an old one. try the new developer version if you want:
http://www.destructavator.com/92dl/ufoai_win32_r28412.exe (http://www.destructavator.com/92dl/ufoai_win32_r28412.exe)
there is no problem with that anymore.

Hi Guys.  It was the 2.3 dev version.  I have downloaded the newest version and will put it on right away.  What is the url for downloading the latest version so that I can always check and see if I have the very latest version.  I want to keep up with this because it is a very good game.

I want to ask a few question concerning the game.

How many years will it be before the corrupt alien ships appear?
How many civilians need to actually be killed before the game stops for that reason?

I installed the game and made my initial base however I noticed that the advanced combat armor cannot be made now.  The icon is there but it does not show up in the production screen.

the icon is where? it should not be part of the campaign game - just for multiplayer. the writeup isn't finished yet.

if you want to stay up-to-date - use the svn version - see the wiki for more information.

The icon is in the ufopedia.  If you are going to make certain things available only in the multiplayer then you should have a list either on the board or in the notes about what items are for multiplayer and keep it updated.  They should not be in the campaign mode at all.  People will be expecting them in the newer version.

I have removed it already. You'll still see it with old savegame, but games started with r28547 or later will not.

Ok.  Thank you for that now I don't have to worry about it.  One other thing is that the reaction fire button is not working.  I pressed the reserve button and  that works.  But the reaction fire button says that it cannot be activated.   I lost three personnel because they could not fire. Thank you for a great game.

The ReactionFire system is changing. Currently you have to select a firemode for RF before activate it by clicking in one of the circles in front of firemodes in fire dialog.

About your questions before:
There is no civilian casualty limit in 2.3. Just keep the nations happy.
Corrupter UFO won't be in final 2.3, we still have to create maps for it for example. When it appears in game exactly I don't know, it's based on alien interest level.
