okay when I am in combat the bat charts for TU's Health and whatever else are invisible. They briefly appear when I click crouch but then re-dissiapear.

which version do you use? the current svn revision or the rc2 installer?

This may be unrelated but for some time already (and in the current SVN) people have broken movement and healt lines (and other problems) in "make release" binaries, while just "make" works.

I'm havving the same problem. I'm using the rc2 installer.  Only the grids of the bars appears, but not the content with the actual informations.

Windows? I've heard rc2 is quite broken on Windows. Try SVN trunk, or wait for the new installer (may be here soon).
