Is this intended?
1. I really like the option to edit character names as it makes me more concientious towards my soldiers. It's just that bit harder for me to send my wife or brother off as cannon fodder than Al Hadr Mujhed, Brian Westgate or whatever their names are.
2. It's also way easier for me to remember the characters and what they're good at that way. I'm not very good with names and it's a tactic I've used since X-Com.
P.S Hats off for an excellent game. I'm absolutely thrilled to see the little bits of storyline implemented in 2.1. I can't wait to get the whole shebang. Keep up the good work. :)

I agree wholeheartedly with you, scars. One of the first things I ALWAYS do in Xcom is change the names...typically to friends of mine, sometimes to a bizarre collection of celebrities...whatever. Anything to make the characters a little more memorable for me personally.

I always liked names like "Fodder 1", "Grenade Bait", and "Elite Sniper 1" :)

Yeah, that can also be disturbingly entertaining.
"Who just ate that plasma blast? Oh no, not Bullet Meat 5!"

@Wanderer: I think you mean "Fooder 1", it's "Cannon Fooder" ;)

Hehe I also used to spend quite a lot of time renaming troops in a way that pleased me.
That way, I could "emulate" a better hierarchy structure, with names starting by Team Name (like Alpha, Bravo, Charlie according to their overall level), and function in the Team. I ended up with names like :
Alpha/Team Leader
Alpha/Sniper
Alpha/Medic
etc...
Quite useful, actually ;) I mean, beside being funny :p
