Discussion / Tweaks to the new UI
« on: August 04, 2014, 08:43:48 pm »
I'd like to make a couple of tweaks to the new 2.6 UI because there are a couple of minor annoyances that have cropped up.  Unfortunately I don't have the know-how to fix one of these issues, and the other is simply a matter of knowing where the number lies.

1: The boxes around inventory spaces have been removed.  I really just want to put them back in, or request that they be put back in.  If anyone can show me how to do it, or if the devs fancy putting the boxes back in, that'd be great.

2: Where do I find the number that alters the text colour?  It's probably easy to find, but I don't fancy buggering it up, or trawling through documents to find it.  The pale blue, combined with the teeny-tiny-typeface, makes it hard to read vital information like AP or health, especially on the pavement grey or snow white used in a lot of battlemaps.

P.S.

3: How does one put the AP-left-note that used to come up when looking at your options, back into the game? I really liked the 2.5 addition of this little reminder of how much you'll have after performing the selected action.

I'd put these in modding, but they're just as much requests for the devs as they for help :D  Honestly, I'm only playing 2.6 because I'm testing if the game-breaking bug from 2.5 still exists, so I can get it fixed :P

Thanks in advance.

Windows / Re: Can't start mission, game stops responding

Oh. uh. Heh, sorry.

It's not dumping me, fortunately. It just hangs immediately after the please wait notice disappears, without black screen, or giving me an error message, or doing anything of any importance (like letting me play the mission :D).  Here's my most recent save, which I started just in case it was a corruption or some issue with the mission in specific. I've helpfully got it to the point where the dropship has just left the base, so you need only unpause.  This was the first mission in this new campaign, but previously I got up to June or July before it started doing this.

Have both of my saves, just in case.

Oh, and my specs, how thoughtless of me:
AMD Radeon 7700
Intel Core i7-3820 @3.60 (4 real, 4 virtual)
Windows 7 64bit

I know this is a bit of a necro, but I'm having this problem now, a year on. I know it's not the same fix, because my user profile is under Shiny; all latin, ascii characters.

I'm including the ufoconsole.log for you below.  I got into this game aaaaages ago, just got re-into it when I found it had gone up a version number, but I've never had much luck with it. When I downloaded this recently I could play normally, and did so for a little while, and then a terror mission on the Houston underground appeared, and now the game won't let me play a mission, even on a new campaign.

Why are the downloads so big? A gig seems a little much.

Having followed all the steps, downloaded everything, updated, honoured the ancestral spirits with libations and rituals, installed the software in accordance with the passage of the correct planets, and placed my computer in harmony with both feng shui -and- cosmic alignment...

...I have nothing to show for it.

To 'survive' more than one month you will need at least 6-7 bases with all 'SAM Sites' to reduce probability of decreasing nations' happiness.

No. No you really don't.

Sniper rifles (even after coilguns are in) and Rocket Launchers are my favourites, but I only field one of each (two snipers max) in any team. Actually, I tell a lie. My favourite weapon is the stunrod. Every troop carries a stunrod as basic equipment, and for my close-range soldiers (read: cannon fodder) it's one of their primary armaments.

Oooh. That's odd. I downloaded 2.4 (it still doesn't work), so I tried the fix and got some new behaviour, namely:

install_name_tool: object: /Applications/UFOAI.app/Contents/MacOS/ufo malformed object (unknown load command 4)

That's what I get immediately after pressing enter on the mixer line.

Alas, I do not know what this means, and google won't tell me.

I was having the exact same problem, same logs and whatnot, so I tried the solution provided and... it doesn't work. Same errors. Meep :(

 Chipset Model:   GMA X3100
  Type:   Display
  Bus:   Built-In
  VRAM (Total):   144 MB
  Vendor:   Intel (0x8086)
  Device ID:   0x2a02
  Revision ID:   0x0003

When I turned off the shaders I got even less. No lights, nothing. On the bright side, 2d geoscape works beautifully, just like it used to.

Hmm.. I've been having the exact opposite problem from one of the other users here. It's the geoscape... it... it's dark. not just nighttime dark, but so dark that I can't see the outlines of the countries without turning on the illumination, and then I can't see anything but masses of obscuring colour where the countries should be, making it impossible to find my base or UFOs or anything. This pops up whether it's day or night, in act, daytime doesn't really seem to make a difference at all.

I've fiddled with gammas, contrast, screen brightness, but nothing lifts it from the ever-present gloom. I'm going to go away and try the new version before sending in all the complex details. Here's hoping it doesn't happen.
