I had it happen on a few occasions now that there's a new ufo, but the time doesn't stop until tracking has been lost. could I provide anything to help clear this up, logs, something...?

How to make usefull bug reports. (http://ufoai.org/forum/index.php/topic,5593.0.html)

I don't quite see how console log, screenshots or savegames could help with this. Which is why I asked.

You could mention more details - such as which build of 2.5dev you are playing (date), and if you find this happening shortly after you saved, you could provide that savegame. The UFOs' behavior seems predetermined up to a certain point - when a UFO changes direction, the new direction (and destination, presumably) is randomly decided at that point.
Did you check your notification messages? They may not be configured correctly. I haven't had this problem, though I think I've had had a 'you lost tracking of this UFO' message appear when the UFO had already left the detection radius some time ago, once or twice.

playing 2nd jan. version currently, but this has been happening in the few previous versions that I've played as well. This happens also if I start a new game, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the save itself at least. I can't figure out any pattern for when this happens... I've seen it half a dozen times now, not just once. Notification settings are at their defaults - and the time *usually* does stop... And there's plenty of time between the ufo spotted- and lost tracking- notifications, too.

On which time setting you were playing?

I've noticed this when on the fastest time setting

Then it is a known issue, it won't change soon...

Oh, okay. It doesn't keep me from playing at all but good to know that you guys are aware of this.
So is this expected to happen only at the fastest time setting, not at any other setting?

Yes, I suggest playing on 1hrs. I think it is fast enough, and I didn't experience any timing issues with it (for airfights I use 20mins).
