Feature Requests / Re: IR-goggles
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:44:39 am »
You know as silly as this sounds.. when I first started playing I thought IR-goggles were a one time use per mission item only. Perhaps adding ammo to them would allow them to remain a stable form of flushing out an enemy.. or not going in blind without allowing them to be used all the time. 1-2 uses would mean 8-16 uses per mission and in the missions where you really need them, subway, harvester ships, any mission with lots of tunnels, you tend to use them more.

You can justify it with the fact that no known power source can sustain that level of imaging more than 1 or 2 times while keeping the IR goggles lightweight enough for tactical use. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Splendid, I'm sure that'll be useful information for selecting soldiers! Appreciate the information ShipIt.

Tactics / Question about heavy weapons.
« on: November 15, 2012, 08:26:16 am »
Used search came up with either obsolete or not at all. Anyway I'm curious to what the heavy stat does. I know the weapons went through a change of shot types with 2.5 dev, but I cannot find a weapon that actually uses the heavy skill for anything. All heavy weapons use close/assault/High Explosives. Is it a booster for weapons classified as heavy or maybe it just didn't fit with the new weapon fire modes?

Basically I'm looking for a rundown on what the heavy skill influences and if possible how much, specifically in 2.5 dev. Thanks!

Discussion / Hi! Another question.
« on: November 15, 2012, 06:25:17 am »
Not sure if this is the right forum area for this specific tech question but it doesn't really fit anywhere else. The nightly build download for 2.5 dev *Trying to update to get weight system so I can adjust for future builds*. Anyway when I download the nightly build it gets to about 40-60 mb complete downloading at about 1.3mb/s and it stops saying it is complete.

Just asking if anyone knows why or what could be causing this. Thanks!

Edit: Got it to work by pausing every 40 mbs and restarting the download. Seems that the only problem was 1-70mb or so.

Bugs in stable version (2.5) / Re: Highly unstable mission
« on: November 13, 2012, 11:53:12 am »
I'd like to report this singular bit of information has stopped all known crashes for me. Anyone else with similar problems I highly recommend it. Still getting lag if I choose to view my soldiers stats too often. But 0 needler, hoverbot, bleed, infinite enemy turn, or crash to geoscapes in the last 3 battles!

Happy hunting!

I'll give that a try and see what happens. If it works it would probably be a good idea to circulate that workaround as it seems to be a VERY common problem.

First mission I had needlers appear it crashed non-stop. I've stopped playing until a stable 2.5 version is coming out. I could play 2.4 but the differences between them seem pretty large. Might give it a go anyway. So I'm guessing its either the alien that uses needlers, bleed damage, or the needlers themselves. Mine also introduced hoverbots in the same mission.

Finally got one to stick.

Edit: Finally got past that mission and got a harvesting mission and its freezing on the enemies turn making a wierd grinding noise. Game was running absolutely wonderfully until the newer aliens started showing up. Specifically hoverbots. And now when it spots a shevaar it hangs. Maybe something in the files or save is becoming corrupted? It seems the more I play the more unstable it becomes.

I appreciate you linking the path but if I was able to retrieve my save it means I found the correct folder :). Problem is there is nothing in it relating to logs. Not sure why its not saving. I've had over 20 crashes on that singular map. I'd just leave it alone if it wasn't a landed mission.

I've followed the instructions for a bug report and found all the foldiers but there is no log file inside it and I've actually had the game create quite a few.. probably 10 or so by now.

So I'm using 2.5-Dev the most current version. I've got windows 7 64 bit and a Geforce 550 ti graphics card with latest drivers. 4 gbs of ram.

Anyway I've experienced several interesting crashes/problems so far. The first was I have had two missions of crashed scout ships that if I enter them they load up.. everything goes fine until the first round begins then it teleports me back to the geoscape with all my soldiers critically wounded. *Ended up ignoring this mission due to this* If I auto mission it everyone dies every single time and I lose. Sometime it will begin and all my soldiers will be very very close to death and bleeding from the get go.

After skipping that mission I encountered a mission that I had to auto mission due to it locking up the game.

And finally.. where I am now.. I'm in a mission that introduces the hoverbots and I can get about halfway through and it crashes. One time it auto abandoned it and I had to go back in from round 1.

Attaching my log and my save file to see if anyone else has my issues.

Uh.. log doesn't seem to be there. I made one.. it hasn't successfully saved properly I suppose, due to the game locking up and windows not allowing me to select to save the log.
