Design / Assistance Implementing Small Features

First of all I wanted to start off by introducing myself. I'm a 24 year old game with a fair amount of experience in both C and C++ and I love what you guys have done with the venerable Quake 2 engine. I was wondering if you could use a little help implementing some of the features I've seen or suggestions. Seems to me some of the suggested aircraft weapons (Plasma warheads on the Sparrowhawk and TR-20 system) might be better recieved if someone were to make a MOD that the Dev-Team could play around with and see if it adds to the experience or is just better left out. Once I familiarize myself with the code and modding the game some I'd be happy to spare a few hours a week to help push some new features or items into the game. Mapping and Modeling aren't my strength. I was just wondering what things the Dev team might someone to look into that they either don't have time for or are a low priority. I know in this type of environment every little bit of help is needed.
