Feature Requests / Re: MP CO-OP Different approch

Look at UFO TTS.That's what i'm thinking. The lowest setting a player has is used for all players.the game is running minimum on the lowest setting and you can't halt the game.works great.

And for the problem where one is in battle and another is on the geoscape nothing will be really synced except if a player get's out of battle and into geoscape again you'd have to do something like a resync. While someone is in battle, the game would run on minimum speed.

Alternativly you could force all players into the same battle if one player starts one. This would also let the game be synced all the time on the same level.

Just thought that co-op would be easier to do because the mp code for battles is allready there and adding it on a simple basic form for story mode without changing groundmaps would cover it nicely  ;D and could be expanded in the future somewhere without having to rewrite the game  ;)

On the other side it would have been really bothersome to rewrite it if 1 player would go for aliens and the other for humans.

But i understand your point that it would consume some time to do so.

While player A is in a fight and player B choose to stay on the Geoscape view to do some things bevor helping or flying to another crashsite, the timeframe will be at the lowest setting. If player B chooses to help player A in the fight, there will be something like an emergency transportation to the battle with increased flightspeed of the transport BUT you can't change the course if you decide to go there and you will be forced to battle...there's no turning back.

I made an entry in the sourcefordge proposals and i'll write it down here.

Basicly it's a co-op Kampagne Mode that doesn't invent anything new but can be expanded in the future.

It's players fighting on the same side -> Humans

Every player can build, research etc. like normal. The lowest timesetting of a player is automaticly the same for anybody else. Players can see eachothers timesetting.

If a player starts a fight with aliens, the others can join from the beginning or choose to do something else and fly there at some other point to join up in the fight.

Joining a fight at a later point will spawn the assisting player at the transports location inside the battle.
So there will be no need to change the maps but joining is at someones own risk (could be aliens waiting there). Aliens could also receive "reinforcements" by chance for added surprise.

The base of the players that are currently in a fight will be "ignored" by UFO's on the Geoscape map, thus not making it unfair or impossible.

In the future, players could transfer resources between eachother with transports that can be shoot down by UFO's, triggering rescue missions.

Design / Re: Underwater?
« on: August 17, 2010, 04:50:19 pm »
Sorry, but I remember that the devs have rejected underwater/sea/shoreline missions many times.
So you have to do it yourself (DIY) and even then it most likely won't make it into the official branch.

Also, humanity never made it into Mars and we still don't have fusion power (-> need for deuterium for other than research purposes).

But we are researching alien technology (ingame), so it would be viable to be able to modify it to our need in terms of travel or even underwater settlements. Realism somewhere would end with alien research because you eighter go the "scifi" way or alien technology would look similar to humans in terms of logic and wouldn't be alien anymore  ;D

Just my 2 cents worth on this stuff

Sounds like a nice idea  ;D Both should be destroyable to atleast make it more realistic. Some base defense could be used by aliens too  ;)

Feature Requests / Re: alien campaign / multiplayer campaigns
« on: August 17, 2010, 12:29:32 pm »
Hi there  ;D

A multiplayer kampagne would be nice. Something like Human vs. Alien player or co-op against the other side. Atleast for 2 players.

The Co-op part would be easier i suppose. Let the other human/s rush to the attacker/defenders help and split the maximum usable humans on a map onto the players comming to help. Or if a player is allready fighting with the maximum number of units and you join the fight at a later progress, you'll be some kind of backup if units die...or something like this. Or we could limit the maximum amount of units we take with us to have space if another player wants to join the fight with some of his units. Spwan point for new arriving units could be near the inital dropship, so the maps wouldn't have to be modified.

EDIT:

In another Thread there was also the discussion about the timeflow in geoscape problem. That's not a problem. You just take the slowest setting of a player for actuall timeflow. Every player could set it and for neighter one it would be to fast. And if made ideal a player should see what setting another player has.

Offtopic / Re: NAS Server
« on: August 14, 2009, 08:20:18 am »
Yes your right. It's a bit confusing because i didn't know how a normal game server runs. I have set up my own pc as dedicated server using host files. I knew that a normal game server also supports things as php scrips and so on. I also made an apache server on my home pc what wasn't a big problem. Only problem was that i wanted to have a constant running platform without having to use my own pc or another one so i thought that a NAS Server would fit right in if i would connect it to my WLAN router.

Counterstrike Source was the first game i tried to make a decent server and it worked on my pc. But given all those diffrent NAS Servers i was somehow confused what i really need them to have and how they really work. I've seen NAS servers that had their own OS running on them and i strongly think that if i can get an apache to run on it than i should be able to make a gaming server out of it.

Your right. I should try to ask on the valve forums  but thanks for the help ;D

Flash lights mounted to guns would be cool or flares that you can toss around to make some light. Night and Infra Vison would be nice  ;D And what also would be nice to later have some psi sight. Motion trackers would also add up nicely  :D

Yes i want to make a permanent running gaming server. I just don't know what a NAS Server should be able to do for it to be able to get a gaming server.

Does anyone know what a NAS Server should be able to do that it can be used as a gaming server...for Counterstrike Source and similar games?

Feature Requests / Night Maps
« on: August 12, 2009, 01:58:23 pm »
Maybe it's just me but the Maps at night feel just dark. It could use a bit more atmosphere. Some light around the soldiers like in X-Com would also be nice. I know it downs realism a bit but i think it would add great to the game. Maybe because Enemy Unknown and TFTD had those vibrant colors it added to game atmosphere and all those creepy sounds from walking aliens. Even if you didn't see them you knew they where close by and by the sound you could guess what kind of alien scumbag it was. Brings back memories  ;D

Somehow it all added up great and gave the games something special. The newer UFO games somehow lack this certain something about them.

Though it would be easier. Oh well. If it can't be done than it won't break my neck  ;D

No not auto equip. Would be nice if the game could look for newer version files and download them on it's own or something of sort  ;D
