Feature Requests / Xash 3D engine

Hello fans and devs of UFO:Alien Invasion !!

I propose that UFO:AI changes its engine from Quake 2 to Xash 3D since its more advanced and its compatible with Quake 1(Maybe Quake 2 - IDK) and GoldSource engine.

It has advanced features and graphics comparable to Source engine, It even supports some simple physics. I saw it on some youtube video, I wish you guys contact Xash 3D dev team and I think they will gladly help you since they are modders...

I think it can be compatible with your AI and scripts mostly. The conversion could be rather simple and may slightly slower development of UFO:AI if you decide to convert it but it may result in smoother development since graphically you wont be limited.

Since it what it can do, I think its well optimized. Think about it.

Mapping / Strange idea...

Guys... I have an idea... Current maps are blocky as hell... I got probavly a simple solution involved graphics but afraid that... Well... that maps will crash or not possible to make...

So what if the map was actualy like sets of 3D models? Then there would be nicer looks atleast and that... But that they are like phantoms and you can go trought them so thats not right... But If we make 3D models that we can go trought them with other 3d models we could make invisible real map in map editor and 3D models(MD3) would only be like nice skin while the inside would be a map that is totaly transparent...

Sorry for my bad knowlegde of english... :/

Hello coders I found some interesting info... So if your engine can support anything involved with ID TECH 3/Quake 3 engine then please do it...

So in that link above there is an discussion... So please look and read... There are usefull information... Find any source code involved with format MD4 ... or Ravens MDR or other...

There were some MD4 models and that probavly in some games... In Quake 3 source code there was unfinished MD4 format but a coder Gongo worked on MD4 format to finish it...

Raven that made FAKK2 made MDR format that used skeletal animation I think.

Type in google or what ever...:
Gongo MD4 format
id tech 3 md4 format
ravens md4 format

Something like this, find those codes, see what you could mix or patch up... connect and to make it work!! Hope you will find some codes and that and implement skeletal animation and faster progress with animation, hopefully...

I hope you will say thanks  or something or respond atleast ... If you knew all along that it exists and that its finished then why the hell you dint do it before?

Guys please make skeletal animation...

It includes Quake 3 engines Skeletal Animation MD4 format... Older MD4 format unfinished but I hope you guys can finish it... Good Luck!

EDIT: There are alot of sites about MD4 format... Just type one of these:

Raven MDR Format

You will probavly find source code, all source codes involved in ID Tech 3 engine are GPL... Even MD4/MDR version that was unfinished was finished in other games, find those codes try to patch them up and fix some stuff and make some stuff and you will get skeletal animation...

Better Animations, Less Space Needed... More Stuff and Diversity of Characters :D

Guys, I would like to see some friendly AI... Not the civilians but soldier...

So I would like to see maps with scenario like ambushed convoy with very important stuff, like alien vehicle parts, informations of prototype stuff... So Friendly AI would be armed with pistols, assault rifles and smgs and fire at aliens and take cover...

It would add more realism and fun as you could see friendly AI keeping busy aliens so that you can like flank the aliens and that...

Discussion / Why Quake 2 and not Quake 3(or Ioquake3) engine?

Hello people, I am new to this forum and I have a major question...

Why UFO:AI is still running and developing on Quake 2 and not on more advanced Quake 3 engine?

I know that this game started in 2003 when Q3 engine wasnt open source and Q2 was already open source for years, I dont know why UFO:AI wasnt transfered to Q3 engine since it became avalible because of some features and I am not expert, coder or dev but I dont know if it is more complex to develop something on Q3 engine... Or IoQuake 3 engine...

Anyway I think that we should transfer to Quake 3/IoQuake 3 engine...

Even thought it would slow progress and that most content would probavly be lost if not possible to convert/reformat to Quake 3 or IoQuake 3 engine properly, but changing engine would be beneficial... Especialy if we change to IoQuake3 engine ...

There are more benefits like more realistic animations, more possible difrient looks of soldier, civilians, aliens, etc... Because MD3 models are seperated into 3 parts and that are Head/Torso, Arms and Legs...

IDK what to tell you but there is an interesting fact that Quake 3 engine can support skeletal animation and heres the data on Wikipedia (look at models part of text):

I cant write tons of things what is good on Q3 engine...

Look on the web and find details...

Anyway IDK what to write, I just want your opinion...
