Linux / Re: Fedora14 ufoai version problem
« on: December 26, 2010, 02:12:56 pm »
Thanks Mattn,

Now I understand this. So I have 2.3 with revision 2 installed. So I need to wait for RPMFusion to start sharing 2.3.1. :)

I have tried to compile ufoai 2.3 earlier when rpm package was not available but unfortunately it ended with issues I could not solve. So I start gaming with 2.3. I guess it is a big step ahead compared to 2.2.1 I have played earlier.  I'll just wait for newer versions to be released in rpm package.

Linux / Fedora14 ufoai version problem
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:29:00 pm »
Hi,

I have a strange version issue in my Fedora14. Yum list ufoai* shows I have bellow rpm packages installed.

Installed Packages
ufoai.x86_64                           2.3-2.fc14      @rpmfusion-nonfree
ufoai-common.x86_64             2.3-2.fc14     @rpmfusion-nonfree
ufoai-data.noarch                   2.3-1             @rpmfusion-nonfree
ufoai-data-server.noarch        2.3-1             @rpmfusion-nonfree
ufoai-doc.x86_64                    2.3-2.fc14     @rpmfusion-nonfree
ufoai-tools.x86_64                  2.3-2.fc14     @rpmfusion-nonfree

So I guess I should have the latest  2.3-2 version installed.

However when I start ufoai I have the bellow version information in start up screen.

UFO: Alien Invasion 2.3 AMD64 Oct 14 2010 Linux RELEASE

But I guess it should say 2.3.2 or something like that. Is it a known issue that 2.3 version is shown in 2.3.2 or do I run 2.3 instead of 2.3.2? Can anybody help howto make sure I'm running 2.3.2? I tried to uninstall and install again all ufoai packages with Yumex but still I have 2.3 version in startup screen.

Hi,

Just to inform all Fedora 7 users. Latest version UFO:AI 2.2 developement version (Linux) 362MB (2.2 branch - rev 12714 - 2007-10-29) runs fine on Fedora 7 without libcurl-gnutls. ;D It seems libcurl-gnutls dependency has been removed.

I'm now restarting my bug hunting again.

Hi,

Symlink did help with earlier version of 2.2 when I had problems with curl version. Now the problem is that I don't have libcurl-gnutls at all. I have curl and curl-devel installed but it seems that's not enough. So first I need to find libcurl-gnutls from internet.

Does anyone know where to find libcurl-gnutls in rpm package for Fedora7? I can only find some old rpm versions for Fedora 4 and older.

Hi,

I just downloaded and installed 2.2 trunk - rev 12562 - 2007-10-19 version of ufoai into my Fedora7 linux box.

When starting ufoai I get an error message "error while loading shared libraries: libcurl-gnutls.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".

It seems libcurl-gnutls is missing. I tried to find that package from Fedora and Livna repositories but I did not find any package matching libcurl-gnutls.

Does anyone know where I can find missing packages?

Discussion / Re: "New" Weapon stats (2.2 - 2.3)
« on: October 15, 2007, 06:59:09 pm »
Hi,

If I remember correctly in "UFO enemy unknown" every item had weight. The more you had equipment=weight to carry the slower=less time units you had. I have not noticed this in Ufoai or maybe only small effect that does not make a difference. With stronger weight to TU effect you really need to consider if you want fast soldiers with less fire power or slow soldiers with more fire power. The best would be a combination of course.

For example in "UFO enemy unknown" if you packed heavy weapon in backpack and heavy weapon at hand and rest of the slots full of ammo and grenades a rookie soldier did not have enough time units to shoot at all.

This could be one way to make two handed light weight weapons more important.

I have the same problem with rev 12264 - 2007-10-08 I downloaded today running on Fedora7.

Hi,

In 2.2 trunk - rev 11999 - 2007-09-26 this problem was at least with the new fighter aircraft types I was able to buy. I don't remember names but both new aircraft had this problem when fully equiped.

With 2.2 trunk - rev 12177 - 2007-10-03 I have only tried basic/default interceptor in base and I'm unable to fight UFOs. I did fully equip interceptor at the beginig (shiva gun, two different types of missiles, armor, EMC equipment and targetting computer)

I have not yet tried what happens if I keep default equipment. I will test this later today.

Hi,

I have problems to fight against UFO aircrafts. When radars detect UFO aircraft I try to send interceptor to fight with UFO but interceptor flies immediately back to base.

I can send interceptor to flight and follow UFO aircraft manually but if I set interceptor to fight with UFO aircraft interceptor flies directly back to base.

This happens now every time when UFO aircraft is detected in 2.2 trunk - rev 12177 - 2007-10-03. I had the same problem in previous version 2.2 trunk - rev 11999 - 2007-09-26 but not that often.

I think this is related to interceptor equipment. I have a feeling if you don't modify interceptor equipment you can fight with UFO aircraft but after modification interceptor flies back to base.

I will debug this more and I will try to find out what initiates this bug if it is some specific equipment or equipment combination for example.

ps. I run ufoai in my Fedora7 linux computer but I don't think this is an OS dependent problem.

Feature Requests / Re: idea for improved game play
« on: October 05, 2007, 09:56:44 pm »
Hi,

I have an improvement idea for "base menu hierarchy". Maybe this has been introduced earlier maybe not, but I did not find anything similar in the forum.

This is a little bit complicated to explain but I try. When adjusting bases it would be nice to be able to change horizontally from base to base in every "page" like in "base opening page".

Currently "base menu hierarchy" is very similar than in UFO: Enemy Unknown and XCOM: Terror From the Deep many years ago. When a new technology, an aircraft weapon for example, is available. I will click Base1 -> Aircraft -> Equip and then I can select a new weapon for aircraft. Then I have to click up -> up -> next base to goto base2 and then -> Aircraft -> Equip to be able to select new weapon for aircrafts in base2.

I would like to have horizontal move available and for example I will explain the same situation again.  Click Base1 -> Aircraft -> Equip and then select a new weapon for aircraft. After aircrafts in base1 are ready I only click next base to jump to same "page" on base2.

I think this kind of horizontal menu jump between bases in every level would save a lot of clicks when adjusting bases.

I believe this is very easy to implement in SW code point of view put this will require new UI for all "base menu pages" to have these base selection buttons. So I think maybe this UI change is too big for 2.2 but it would be nice in 2.3.

EDIT: One way to fix this fast is to assign quick keys to jump to same page on next or previous base.

If you had difficulties to understand what I mean reply here and I will try to explain this more clearly.

Any comments from other players?

ps. This menu structure was annoying in UFO: Enemy Unknown but still I really loved playing it when I was younger. Now long time after those days ufoai is making me to feel young a gain. Big thanks to all contributors!

Feature Requests / Re: configure fails - curl
« on: October 02, 2007, 06:10:46 pm »
Thanks Mattn,

That was easy fix and now the game runs nicely.

For those who don't know linux that well here is what I did.
su                                       (and root password is needed)
cd /usr/lib                            (move to folder where libcurl.so.4 is in Fedora7)
ln -s libcurl.so.4 libcurl.so.3   (symlink command as Mattn explained)
Now you can start ufoai in a new console.

Cheers, HitMan

Feature Requests / Re: configure fails - curl
« on: October 01, 2007, 08:40:30 pm »
Hi,

I have different problem with curl. I downloaded UFO:AI 2.2 developement version (Linux) 362MB (2.2 trunk - rev 11999 - 2007-09-26) and installed it into my Fedora 7 linux computer.

When I try to start ufoai I get immediately error message in my linux console "./ufo: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". :'(

I found out from the forum that curl and curl-devel are needed. I checked that I have following versions installed.

curl:
/usr/bin/curl
/usr/lib/libcurl.so.4
/usr/share/doc/libcurl.so.4.0.0
/usr/share/doc/curl-7.16.2/curl-7.16.2
/usr/share/man/man1/BUGS

curl-devel:
/usr/bin/curl-config
/usr/include/curl
/usr/include/curl/curl.h
/usr/lib/curlver.h
/usr/lib/pkgconfig/easy.h
/usr/share/doc/mprintf.h
/usr/share/doc/curl-devel-7.16.2/multi.h
/usr/share/man/man1/stdcheaders.h
/usr/share/man/man3/types.h

It seems ufoai is requesting libcurl.so.3 but I have libcurl.so.4. Does this mean that I need to downgrade my curl to libcurl.so.3? Or is this some sort of a bug? Should libcurl.so.4 be backwards compatible to libcurl.so.3?

I would highly appreciate if someone can help me to get this new version running. I really want to see the new features and improvements from 2.1.1 and I would like to help beta testing and finding bugs.

Thanks in advance,

- HitMan
