Hi, i want to play a newer UFOAI version (because 2.2.1 has an UFO-research bug, makes it impossible to play the whole game) but i always got unpack errors when i start (for example) ufoai_2_3dev_r26705.exe.
So i used the free 7zip tool to unpack the files and let the installer skip over already existing files.
But when i start the game, i always got a error message like this: procedure entry point "freeaddrinfo" not found in DLL "WS2_32.DLL"
Please, are there any newer releases/binaries to download, which really works onto a Windows 2000 PC ?
PS: I do not want to compile the gamesource because - i don't know how :-\ and second, i only have the free Dev-C++ Compiler available.

I'm sorry to say that I remember Windows 2000 support was no longer in the official code at some point during 2.3 development, although forum member Muton was able to put together a simple unofficial patch for the code to make the game work on Win2k. It's been a long time since it was discussed, I don't recall all the details, but a couple of workarounds were brought up...
Edit: I'd try searching the forum for those old topics, search for "win2k" or "windows 2k" etc...

If my memory serves me well, I got that same error when I started with UFO back then. But IIRC, it must have been on XP !
Do you use the latest service pack ?

I use Windows 2000 Service Pack 2, but i want avoid to upgrade it, because "never touch a running system" ;)
UFO-Patch for Win2k sounds good :D Can you tell me the URL, where i can download this patch? Or where to download the latest real 100% Win2k compatible development version of UFOAI 2.3?

Thanks Muton, but i already knew this thread and had even downloaded the wspiapi.zip and this codeblocks-thing before i opened this thread.
But, codeblocks will not start, when i doubleclick the exe file, and i have also no clue how to use it to compile ???
Please, can you compile it with the code changes on your PC and upload the binaries somewhere, i (and all the other win2k-want-to-play-ufoai2.3-users around the world) can download it? ::)
