Hullo,
mattn gave me some screenshots of your map icons ( http://www.sitters-electronics.nl/md2/models/Abase.jpg , http://www.sitters-electronics.nl/md2/models/Pbase.jpg ), and I have some feedback.
The Alien base is alright, but I'd like to see it without that big wall around the main pyramid. Another suggestion is to change those little pyramids around the main one to something that more resembles/calls to mind shapes from the alien UFOs.
The PHALANX base really doesn't fit. The big wall and above-ground slant-roofed houses are not appropriate. I'll model this icon myself, and post it here when it's done.

I like the smaller pyramids, but there's far too much green on the main pyramid. I'd much prefer to see that scaled back a bit.

I know my opinion doesn't count for much on this, but I liked the first one textured to look like a construct from TRON better. :)

I add some detail.
So far I know it is an symbol for the geoscape, then you must not add to much detail , otherwise you are killing the top view when you fly over.
And it is of course an symbol, and not an existing object. ;)

Looks well from the top.
well for the ufopedia it would be nice to have more detailed models, although for map depending on the scale of the model we may not notice any anyway.
I guess the black "windows" can be main exits for UFO interceptors and reconaissance planes.
How about an antenna on the top of the main pyramid ?
Also, maybe an alternate version where all sub-pyramids are linked by a small wall, that may be nice too.
Just simple thought for Winter.

Hmm, I like it, but where do you envisage this being used? It just doesn't say 'alien activity' or 'terror mission' to me.
Maybe it would be handy for special storyline missions or some such.
Suggestions: For non-terror, non-crash, non-special missions, I'd like to see that flag changed into an alien head hovering over the centre of the icon.

Okay, that didn't turn out as nice as I'd expected. Scratch the 'alien head' idea.
We just need something symbolic of alien activity. Any ideas? Maybe we could put an alien face on your flag instead, such as the alien face on the new UFOpaedia icon (this might be just the right size, in fact).
Ideas for the 'terror mission' icon:
Flag with a bloodied Kerrblade.
UFO crash site icon:
Some form of crashed UFO. Scout or Fighter would be best.
Also, is it possible to have animated icons, such as smoke streaming from the UFO crash site or PHALANX radar dishes turning?

That UFO doesn't really look crashed, just partly buried. Some chunks broken off the UFO lying around would help.

I think it would be good to 'see' the crash in the textures, too... splashed mud /sand/earth, black burnt parts or maybe the "green lights switched off" (if they are supposed to be lights).

Yea I think you right, that's why it must be symbols and not miniature worlds all that detail gets lost and have no use at all.

Well if those fine tentacle arms are visible it will be visible if half of it is smeared with mud ... or stuck in a small heap or so...
