Post by: zorgz on December 14, 2009, 11:29:26 pm
Well I use my mac book pro with leopard and whenever I try and save the game it says " Error saving game.  Size mistmatch- failed to save the game"

Don't know why. looks like it's version 2.2.1. i386

i just want to continue dominating the aliens.

Just a guess: Do you have (enough) free space on the disk?

When I used a Mac 20 years ago, I noticed it couldn't detect or handle bad sectors. One common practice was to put a file on the bad sector and never move or delete it. I have no idea if the Mac has changed much in 20 years, so maybe it's a bad sector?

Well, I'll post this message anyways. If nothing else it can be laughed at or bring back fond memories, or something...

Size mismatch is usually an installer issue.  Is it trying to save to a non-existent directory?  An if you try to reinstall you will need to go to the library and make sure everything is cleaned out.

" Error saving game.  Size mistmatch- failed to save the game"  is the only message it gives. The game works fine and everything until i try to save.

there is no such error message reported from the game. either post the "exact" error message and attach the ufoconsole.log or i can't really be of any help for you

http://yfrog.com/08picture1zgp (that's a screen shot of the message)
i don't know how to "attach the ufoconsole.log or i would. I'm not very good with computers.

let me just clarify.
when I download this it'll open the my harddrive, and the game is in the other "drive", so I just copy and paste all the game files(there's only four-five) into another folder of my desire (because that's what I've been doing) or do I need to do something different.

sorry - but without the ufoconsole.log the error message doesn't tell me enough. you should maybe try one of the beta installers lurking around for mac and tell me whether the issue is fixed there.

Can you give me a hint as to how to find ufoconsole.log i can't find it on my computer. The only "beta" related things I could find were for Windows, which is no help to me because I'm using a Mac. Do I need to do compiling and all that junk when i first install.
What gets me is that it works, it just won't save.

you dont think I've looked at that? It hasn't provided me with any answers. Maybe something has gone wrong in the beginning, is there anything special i neeed to do after downloading the game?

...
this shits blowin my mind.

You can't find the log location from the very first question in that FAQ under "General"?

Quote
   *  Where can I find the savegames, screenshots, config.cfg and ufoconsole.log?
          o This depends on your OS:
                + Linux: /home/<username>/.ufoai/<version>/
                + Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\UFOAI\<version>\
                + Windows Vista: \Users\<username>\appData\Roaming\UFOAI\<version>\
                + Windows98 - german version: \windows\Anwendungsdaten\ufoai\<version>\
                + MacOSX: /Users/<username>/.ufoai/<version>/ (prior to 2.3)
                + MacOSX: /Users/<username>/Documents/UFOAI-<version>/ (>= 2.3)
          o Screenshots are in those directories in ./base/screenshots/, savegames are in ./base/save/

As for beta installers for Mac:

http://ufoai.ninex.info/forum/index.php?topic=4380.0

I believe its a sticky right there in the Mac section.

Guess what everybody, I'm back trying to do this again.

Alright, so, to install it, must I compile it. OK so in order to do that, must I have the Xcode IDE tools, to do the compiling?

I looked for a download but it seems like I'd have to pay for it.  After a quick search of my comp it looks like I do not have those tools.

I'm not going to bother and "download" it because I've tried it and it never works. Something's fucked up and I dont know what. Remember, it's not that it won't play, just that it won't save. When I look for the ufoconsolog thing I cannot find it on my computer, not on your website, Destructavator.

Feel free to try and work with me on this guys.
