Hi,

I downloaded pre-requisits and cloned the whole 2.5 repository on 24-7-2016 (yesterday). I compiled UFO right after and downloaded all maps instead of compiling as suggested. After all it worked fine until I got to do my first mission. The battlescape kicked me out to command line.

It also set my screen resolution to 1024x768 instead of leaving it in the widescreen option, and I cannot even set it back. The option is simply removed. Only 4:3 aspect ratio resolutions can be selected. After this I dug into the forum to find something, but only found some partly relating to my hardware or software. Non of them worked so far, but of course I could be missing something quite obvious.
Found solution for ATI cards, for outdated map problems, for compilation errors... checked what I could (maps are fine, checked them with 'make maps-sync')

So here I am with two issues really. No battlescape and no widescreen resolutions under x. HP 6720s with 2GB RAM and Intel X3100, Linux Mint 17.1 i386. According to Sys req. It should work.

The last line "Killed" suggests that the game crashed with a Segmentation failure. It could have happened in the game itself or in the video-card driver - we have seen examples for the latter case too. Could you reproduce the issue in a debugger and provide a backtrace?

Hi, sorry I was busy for a while.

I haven't done the debugging yet, but did a few trials just for the sake of it. It turns out, that straight after I get a mission it is 90% that the game will be "killed". If I restart the game and try again from a saved game just before the troops land, than it would start.
Now I know it's not a clue to what's actually happening, I just wanted to ensure everyone who reads this that I'm on it, and the debugging will happen at some point.

Ah, it is not a SIGSEGV, but a SIGKILL! That makes a difference, my bad.  How much memory you have?

Is there some sort of an "OOM killer" message in the dmesg command output?
- asking this because "OOM killer" is  a self-defence mechanism of the kernel in case the kernel runs very low on free memory: the "out-of-memory killer" service. In this case the kernel kicks the process using the most memory to protect itself and other software.


The integrated X3100 uses system memory. I can imagine that it eats too much leaving to little for software running on the CPU. The baseline was 1G dedicated system memory (not shared with GPU) for UFO:AI IIRC, however I can imagine that we need more for large maps by now.

If the "OOM Killer" killed your game and you have at least 1G RAM, I would try limiting how much memory the GPU can use in the BIOS/UEFI.
