A couple of questions - can you check soldiers health in base, and can/how do you use use hospitals to fix-em up after battle?

I have figured out the med kits in battle, but have these medics back at base I'm not sure what to do with......

Just click the hospital building in your base and you'll be able to set the wounded soldiers to healing. You're going to need medics so that the hospital stays operative.

Or take a look at soldier statistics in Hire menu or Team Select menu.
