SuSe 12.1 Issues

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get UFOAI to run under SuSe 12.1 and having a few issues.  First, I did have to create an extra sym link to get it to compile:

sudo ln -s /lib/libm.so.6 /usr/local/lib/libm.so.6

I also had to create the symlink described on your SuSe WIki as well.

It seems to be running fine, but I'm getting some missing links in data and not sure how to proceed.  I think they're all related, but the first noticeable one is that all the text is gone from the ufopedia and during the into sequence, all I get is intro_sentance1, intro_sentence2, etc...  I vaguely remember something similar when I setup 2.3 a while ago, so I'll check the forums for something, but I'd appreciate an answer here so there is a one stop thread for SuSe issues since I seem to be the first.  Thanks much and I do appreciate all the hard work you guys pour into this game.

P.S.  Here is the output from game while running.  I'm not sure if the messages  of the missing maps are normal or if there is something I need to do to correct that as well.  I haven't gotten to the battlescape yet.

"make lang"

Hey, as I see, our Suse page is higly outdated, it would be cool if someone could update it.

It mentions SVN but we're using Git only already, so keep your eye open. ;)

Hi,

I'm don't regularly build stuff on Linux so there may be a simple solution, but I'm also trying to build under OpenSUSE 12.1 and I'm getting the following error (despite creating the symbolic link that Battlescared posted):

Did you get this solved?  It looks like your sym link is not working.  I think you're running 64 bit SuSe, and I'm running 32 bit, which means your sym link will need to point to /lib64 like the error is indicating.  Try:

sudo ln -s /lib64/libm.so.6 /usr/local/lib/libm.so.6

Well, that did the trick for the 2.4 version.

Undefined references are usually a faulty dependency, which could mean that you're missing a support package, or something didn't compile correctly.  I haven't tried to compile the latest build though, but I would suspect the later.  Were there any other errors prior to this?  Something before the LD command started?

it looks like your libbfd (binutils-dev) is broken.

I suspected it would have something to do with external dependencies - I'm a programmer, it's just been quite a long time since I've dealt with C (or C++) on Linux (I'm a spoiled web developer now)

I tried reinstalling the binutils-devel package and installed the 32bit version as well (just in case), then I deleted the debug-linux-x86_64 folder (which should clean out any previous builds, right?) but still no luck. It's quite possible my system is b0rked in some way as I'm not always gentle with it :) so maybe I will try reinstalling it in the near future..

How would I go about building the 32bit version on a 64 bit system (if that is possible)?

Huh, well those weren't all the files, of course.. my next attempt was to see all the changed files (via git ls-files --others --ignored --exclude-standard) and delete everything that didn't come from GIT originally (except for the maps which I got via the Python script), then run ./configure again and then make. Same error again.

If anyone has additional ideas, please share them, otherwise I'll just leave it be for a while (I can play the 2.4 version on this machine and 2.5 did compile on a Kubuntu box).
