Please kill the wiki spam filter. Pretty please?

Attempts to fix the channel name (#ufo:ai has been closed since forever) on the IRC page are foiled for teh evulz; the error message is as follows:
Quote
The text you wanted to save was blocked by the spam filter. This is probably caused by a link to a blacklisted external site.

The following text is what triggered our spam filter: http://

It may come from our trivial URL antispam. It that case, you can use the template http. Instead of using the wiki syntax http://example.com, u can use example.com You can use

(note the delightfully disjointed explanation).

The already-existing irc:// link is sufficient to trigger this; replacing this with one to the freenode web page, using the suggested HTTP template, does not help the least.

At any rate, the page is pretty old, containing several dead links and such, so over the course of trying to get around the filter I also fixed a few other things. The full source (since I can’t save it on the wiki, you know):

The developers and quite a lot of players hang around on #ufoai channel on [irc://irc.freenode.net irc.freenode.net].

If you have some questions, have found bugs, are searching someone for a multiplayer match, or want to contribute some work - feel free to head over there.

See also the Contact page.

Connect to the IRC network
To connect to irc.freenode.net you have to install an IRC-client or use the freenode web applet. There are many irc clients around - here's a few:
* Xchat (Windows, Linux)
* Pidgin (former Gaim) (Windows, Linux, ...)
* Miranda IM (Windows)
* mIRC (Windows)
* ChatZilla, a Firefox plugin (cross-platform)

Just download, install and connect to the irc server and chat with us.

Transferring information
If you need to transfer larger amount of information to somebody (text, image, savegame...), see the possible methods.

thanks for your fixes - the irc url does not trigger the spam protection for me. i've updated the page.

we can't disable the spam protection, as you might have seen in the 'recent changes' page there are a dozen of new user registrations each day. they would have flooded our wiki in a few hours.

This wasn’t a terribly serious suggestion anyway — at first, my proposal for teaching the wiki a lesson was going to be somewhat more violent and graphic:-P

While I’m complaining about the wiki, I might as well point out the links for getting .PO[T] files on the translation page still point to the SVN repo. I only found the git one by accident, noticing I can’t translate “Full Campaign” and “Simple Campaign” in the menu and going to search for newer sources. (And to confuse a newbie further, there are two git repos, on Sourceforge & Github — are these mirrors? I’m not a coder and rather clueless in these matters, only digging in repos because I’m translating the game.)
