Additional armor / shield tech?

Could we have something better than Nanocomposite Armor further down in the tech tree? 

Or maybe an EM shield that gives some protection against charged particle weapons? (e.g. vs. Plasma & Particle weapons, but not against Kerrblade or Needler. You could stick it in the auxiliary slot where the Infra-red Goggles go).

Power armour is coming at the very least. If memory serves, there will also be advanced versions of both the basic combat armour and the nanocomposite armour and a completely new line of jump/hover armours.

No shields will be included, the devs have been adamant about that (whether these kinds of energy shields or riot shields).
