Dr. Doom:
hi
I change 0ufo.pk3 to 0ufo.rar by just rename it those 3 last char - *.rar, and I had no problems doing that.
but to put it back to 0ufo.pk3 that was more difficult to do.
I tried to rename it back but some how I can't get to those 3 last char - *.rar to change back to *.pk3

is there a special way to do it?

I wonder when you making an archive do I use something called "add to the archive" ?
and there you can change the name of the package, there I just change those 3 last char - from *.rar to *.pk3
but here's the problem when rar did packaged it was done very fast then normal.
so did I do it right or is the file not working??

EDIT; where do I put 0ufo.pk3 in installed ufoai231 ?
I put it under folder called base where all other *.pk3 is before.
but for some reason it's not working.
When I change a file must I recompile that file or do I recompile at all ??

Kildor:
You need to rename .pk3 to .zip, and use «archive to zip» in rar-preferences. Even Rar can work with ZIP.

"Let's figure out what you wanted to ask" task 3. :)

Some facts that may help you:
- *.pk3 are zip files not rar.
- (Win)rar (and UFO:AI) recognizes the file format by it's internal structure, not by the extension and the (Win)rar program can uncompress zip files. However:
- UFO:AI is looking for *.pk3 files only AFAIK. If it doesn't find pk3-s it tries to use individual files (files in the appropriate directory structure without packing)
- UFO:AI can't use rar packages.

I suppose you wanna make a MOD or just Cheat. If latter, I kindly ask not to do it. Cheating ruins the game. A game without difficulty has no fun to play. A game with much difficulties is a challenge. And beating a challenging game IS fun!

In case you wanna make a MOD, I suggest unpacking pk3-s ((re)move the packages after) and manipulate the files, test your modifications. When you're ready you can (but not necessary to) compress the directories into ZIP format (the same named packages they were in the official packs), then rename them to *.pk3.

Dr. Doom:
Where do I put nations.ufo file if I wanna try it out??

Am just using add to the archive and write original name - 0ufos.pk3 and it will packed and read pk3 file.

no am not making mod or cheat, just changing funding that all.

Maybe there is a different way to do it.
I like to see how the game playing out and only that (in that processes have some fun). :D

or is there a better way to learn how the game is working ??

I got an error;  Could not load 0ufos.pk3
so either packed can't use or I put it wrong dir.

I Checked the new pk3 file and all files are there.
am out of idea what can be wrong.

Crystan:
Havn't read the whole thread but have you deactivated "Hide extensions for known file types" in your windows settings?
