Nation Giving up?

I've been playing the game for a while now, trying to keep a nation away from being attacked when i finally hit full laser, and mostly Asian Republic went and took the most brunt, and i tried to sell ufos to keep them happy, when all of a sudden in just a day, they went from Tolerant, to Giving Up. 0 funding from them. Does that mean they're gone forever?

I'm just wondering if this might cause a game over in the near future or something, because i'd really wanna try to get them back up, but after they gave up, little to no UFOs came, so i don't know how i'll get them back.

Anyone know anything about this?

Not sure about the current version, but as far as I know, nations that have given up are gone forever. Even in the original X-coms, surrendered nations means gg (unless of course, you are self-sufficient). Maybe you aren't expanding enough that they got that way.
