Fixing "No free inventory space!" with new executable?

is it possible to get a fix for the nasty "No free inventory
space!" bug, by just copying a new executable (on Windows:
"ufo.exe", ~2 MB and less than 1 MB if packed) over the old
one (2.3)?
If so, this would be great!

Here we go - try this saved game:
Speed up on GeoScape, enter mission
=> crashes immediately ("No free inventory space!").

hi

how is the situation with that bug? i checked the tracker, but i see it is closed? is that bug fixed?

i play version 2.3, stable version, Windows, and that bug still occurs.


it occurs to me mostly when i complete a battlescape mission. After the last alien is killed, the error occurs.
aslo, that error occured several times in the base menu (after i bought/sold many items).

i noticed the error occurs after a mission, only if i haven't load the game for a while. For example, i save the game just before the missions start. If the error occurs after i complete the mission (and the game crashes), i load that close savegame and if i play the same mission again, the error won't occur again.


PS: i'm not very familiarised with programming, but i strongly believe that the error is related to buy/sell/storage situation (and also probably with the items recovered after a mission ends). After i load a saved game, some variables are probably rreseted?

are there any other topics where this bug is reported or discussed? (i didn't find a serious discussion about it). Is the cause of this bug known? can it be fixed?

NOTE: there are the last 2 missions: the last one crashed at the end (after the experiece calculation). The one before last one didn't crash (but also didn't have any exp calculation). and note the lines marked with red:

You probably don't know, but there are several variants of 2.3 out there. So my first question is: where did you DL it ? Official page ? Windows forum / Muton's build ? ...

i downloaded from the official page (sourceforge.net) several months ago.
the win32 release.

is this one available now another 2.3 version? should i try to download it again from the official page?


PS: my game is getting worse and worse ( now it crashes after only 2-3 missions). and is recovering only if i quit game, restart and load the savegame (if i only load a savegame but without quiting and restarting the game first, it crashes sooner).

this time i loaded the savedgame, i bought/sell some items, i reequipped the team and i started the mission.

i finally completed that mission.

the report was: 11 aliens and 13/68 item types/all recovered. i think the most items recovered in one mission untli now.

Maybe the bug is related to the total items present in one mission.

this time, when i succeded to complete the mission without gamecrash, i just loaded the savedgame and played the mission without doing anything else before that.

The 2.3 from the official page is already rather outdated.

I guess currently your best bet is to get an exe from the sticky thread in the Windows forum:
