smoke and flare grenades

Hi all
I've just got to the v2.3 of UFOAI and i instantly remarked that smoke and flare grenades are no more. Was this a conscientious decision from the developers and if yes why? I enjoyed using them in rooms full of aliens and then storm up shooting.
Also as one suggestion. I've always thought it would be useful to have a clear equipment button on the soldier's equipment screen.

Yes it was -- they were not working with the new system and were temporarily removed from the 2.3 release
