opening doors

I apologize for the newbie question, but I just started playing and in my first mission, I couldn't figure out how to open doors.  I right clicked and left clicked and double right and left clicked and it still didn't open.  Is there some secret code I am missing here?  Or are some doors locked and you are just unable to open them?

Press backspace while near a door. I'm not sure if your agent has to look at them.
There's a key binds section in the options, though you may not notice it right away.
