Grey Screen at startup

Let me start off with an apology.  I'm a programmer myself, and the fact that I have to post for help kills me.  I am an avid fan of X-Com UFO defense and play it to this day.  When I saw your project I got pretty excited about diving into it.

I am running a Pentium 4 with Windows XP.  Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Pro and an ATI X800 Pro.  Everything has the latest drivers.  I installed from your Win32 install file. (RC4)

When I run the game, I get the grey screen (openGL initialization), however, before the game really loads it crashes out with an UFO.exe error.  The error details are no deeper than that.  I will put a copy of the console log the game creates below, but it doesn't list any errors at all.  I am 90% sure the problem is my fault somehow.

Hm, I got it to work once by attempting to enter console while the grey screen was still up.  Game loaded, and once it had loaded everthing worked fine.

Unfortunatly, I can't get it to load again.  It is once again just giving me a grey screen and crashing.  What could cause it to load fine once, and then never again?

This looks just like http://ufo.myexp.de/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=481 "At startup"

To get a more verbose logfile, you can run with "set developer 1".

Situation resolved.

No idea what caused it or even what fixed it, but it seems to be working fine now.

Could you move your base/config.cfg to a safe place and try starting and playing the game? Then copy the config.cfg from the RC4 installer and try again, please. You can always come back to your saved config.cfg and hope it will work again. ;)
