Ability to Rotate Multiblock Buildings
« on: March 31, 2010, 09:57:57 pm »
Here's one that recently came to me:  When you're placing buildings that cover two blocks, you should have the option to choose whether you want to place them horizontally or vertically.  I was recently doing some base building, and I was a little annoyed that I technically still had plenty of space for a certain building, but I couldn't actually build it because the two blocks were oriented north-south, not east-west.

Again, as with most of my suggestions, it's not a critical thing, just a small change I'm sure a lot of people would appreciate.

It SHOULD be doable, except I think multiblock buildings are currently kind of a hack. Will need a redesign for larger bases anyway, though.

I think that's more a battlescape map limitation.
If there is not this limitations for the map, sure we can improve the base editor.

As far as the battlescape is concerned, you're going to need rotated maps for all rotatable tiles.

i always thought that the reason for this was something similar to traditional architecture issues like how the native americans had the entrance of their tent to the east (if i remember correctly).
and the chinese thought that the northern direction was unfavorable in tai chi (again, if i remember correctly).
from wikipedia:
Quote
Historically, feng shui was widely used to orient buildings – often spiritually significant structures such as tombs, but also dwellings and other structures – in an auspicious manner.
if you build the building in a non-default orientation maybe you should have efficiency penalties and bad luck would befall you.

I don't think that UFO:AI creators want to deal with something metaphysical.

Interesting. I think we should ask designers to update base managment gameplay according to Feng shui.

You can't place a Quarters next to a Storage. It disrupts yang.

Quartermaster Yang is not pleased when troops feel free to "just stop by next door" and wheedle her for extra DF cartridges to replace the ones supposedly eaten by an Ortnok....

SWEET!!!!!!

Why cant we just have bases that have more than one story? Like a two story underground base?
