Game hangs on Battlescape

I downloaded and installed rev28621 from http://ufoai.ninex.info/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=8229f032a7e3d72e68a100866f34ca85&topic=2830.msg34142#msg34142
My understanding is that the installers in that topic don't require any additional work to get the game up and running, if this is faulty please feel free to point and laugh at this point.
I started up a campaign game just fine, build a base, get everything going and so on, until a terror mission occurred. When I hit the 'enter' button the game started loading the battlescape, began playing the combat music, and never gets any farther.
I tried starting a new game, figuring there was a problem with the Mexico City map or something. The same thing happened when I tried assaulting a landed UFO in India.
So I then try to just launch a couple of skirmish games, to make sure it's a battlescape issue. Each of those hangs also. I've attached the ufoconsole.log for those.

Downloaded 28632, uninstalled old version, installed new version.
Started up, skirmish, city disco, same results.
Game stopped responding after the battlescape loaded and the music started playing.
