Game doesn't start

(1/1)

hessuu:
My friend just installed the latest stable version(2.2.1) on his imac g5, which uses Mac OS X v10.3 "panther", and the game won't start. Nothing happens when he clicks the shortcut. He has had similar problems before, when he tried to install Warzone 2100(http://www.wz2100.net/index.html server moving atm..)

Wikipedia articles on both the computer and the system:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMac_G5
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_v10.3

FYI, when he bought the computer couple of years ago, he was told that Mac OS X v10.4 "tiger" would be included, but for some reason they got the "panther", and they seemed to have noticed it just recently. Could the problem be caused by wrong operating system?

Any ideas on how should we try to fix this?

Mattn:
you should try to start it from command line and send us the important parts of ufoconsole.log (see FAQ for the place where they are stored on a mac)

Yeah, I have not successfully run the program in 10.3.x. That version of the Mac OS is now very old, your friend can likely get 10.5 for a reasonable price now that 10.6 is out (which doesn't support PPC so is not an option).

If your friend has some programming experience, he might want to try checking out the 2.2.1 branch from subversion and compiling himself. Just make sure to use the maps from the downloaded version.
