Will be clearing out old files from links shortly...
« on: July 02, 2009, 09:50:44 pm »
Just a big FYI to everyone:  I've still got tons of old files I've uploaded to my personal website and linked to in this forum, some over a couple of years old or so, and you can find the links in very old posts here.

In the interest of clearing up several Gigabytes of clutter from my web site server and allowing my web hosting company that I use to stop hating me for storing so much old junk up there, I'm going to soon zap the "public" directory (www.destructavator.com/public) sometime soon, and those really old links to files won't work anymore.

...So if you browse through old threads and know of a link to something you still want, grab it now - I'll probably have that folder cleared out within a day, maybe two.

This does not affect the other directory, "92dl" that I've more recently used for some links here, that folder will stay.

Hmm. I am too late. I've never seen your site but mayhap it held things that would have been useful to me. (Please don't tell me it contained tutorials about digital art...)

No, no tutorials.

It mostly contained lots of soundtracks I proposed (different versions of them), a good number of MPEG and AVI files that were parts of proposed ideas for cinematic videos for the game (different versions of them), proposed introduction animation videos (again, in various versions), and sound FX clips I created (also in different versions).

Of all that, the stuff that got approved for use with the game is already either in the SVN trunk, or the SVN data source.  Everything else was either something that was not going to be used for UFO:AI (for various reasons), or older versions of things that already are in the game.

I really did go down the list, file by file, one at a time, and only backed up a few files that I thought were worth it.

There wasn't really anything else in that folder, so you didn't miss much.   ;)

If you find an old post in this forum, and see an old link to something you think you might want, just let me know and I'll tell you what's in the file or upload it again.

Oh yar, Destructavator,

U mentioned that most of em are tracks (i did see alot of oggs), do u usually work with music/instruments based sounds (like a guitar) or do u also play with other types like vehicles, human voices, backgrounds noise/effects??

Well, I've been a musician for quite a long time, since I was little, and sometimes when I get spare time I'm torn between if I should work on playing/recording something or if I should do something with just computers (I'm actually not a hard-core gamer, many of the games mentioned on this forum I admit I'm not familiar with), although it is just more recently I've been doing things with sound FX and such.  To address your question more directly, most of the work I do in my DAW is more music-related, only occasionally doing sound FX of some kind.

I've also just recently started programming my own home-brewed VST plug-ins, with the VST 2.4 SDK and CodeBlocks in C++.  Before I started that, I heard programming your own VST FX was very difficult and took serious programming, but I've actually found with my skills it isn't that bad, for me, at least with the types of plug-ins I'm into.  It's going a little slow though, as making plug-ins is a side project.

Ooooo, tat is so amazing! With a musician's skills here, i am sure we can look forward to greater music / tracks!

I still remember the first time UFOAI actually had a loadup music track, i go.... WOW! Thats AWESOME!!

Then i realised u worked on a couple of the oggs, then i went, ooooooooo, very very promising liaoz. :D

Keep it up! Perhaps stick and specialise in tracks! :D Sound FX can wait. With great ambiance music, it creates a much better feel and overall experience than just sound effects (which has a HUGE database already on the net). ^^
