One of the big problems that I've had is that there's not much diversity in maps. You start a game up, and you'll probably get the same few maps each time in each part of the game. But does this need to be the case? Looking through the documentation, it seems like there's a map autogenerator:
http://ufo.myexp.de/wiki/index.php/Mapping/Random_map_assembly
So what's missing? Is it just the missions.ufo entries? If that's the case, I'd be willing to generate a lot of them. I need to know, however, whether this is the case and whether people would want such a thing.

this is the case. currently there are a few little pathfinding problems with auto generated map - that's why we have no assembled map in current campaign
nevertheless feel free to contribute - maptiles, mission defintions, assemblies and so on...

I'll wait on this one until the autogenerated maps are workable. When they are, however, Wikipedia has huge lists of cities, towns, etc that I can leach from.
Just make an announcement when you're comfortable with the autogenerated maps.
