Ranks - how high have you gone?

Several people have reported in the technical support section that they thought ranks don't work, but they do. I'm wondering a few things about how players perceive/use rank in the game:
1. What's the highest rank anyone's had an agent reach? (I just got my first Senior Warrant Officer)
2. Do you deliberately try to send out a senior-ranked agent with new agents on missions?
3. Do you bother trying to have a senior agent "in charge" of each base?
4. Do your games last long enough to be able to reach high ranks?
5. Do any of your agents survive long enough to reach a fairly high rank?
6. Once an agent reaches a very high rank, do you "keep him at home" so as not to lose that agent in a mission?

1. I have one WO and a few Sgt. Btw, WO is usually a civilian specialist hired by the army - chopper pilots and docs frequently are. They begin at WO 1, I think. The next step form Sgt. should be 2nd Lt. or Lt., no?
2. Don't think you can designate a leader. All the same guys do all my killing, so no sitting around the base for them!
3. Nope. Since most bases are radar posts + interceptor bays, no agents.
4. I an in Spt. Will see.
5. So far so good...
6. Hell, no!

well so far i haven't have any ranks increases at all even when all my main base agents have gone out to more than 15 missions and killed a lot. and then well, it doesn't matter about ranks as long as their stats increases. mostly cannon fodders anyway. But ever since I started, I havent have a killed soldier yet.... but then again it's just 2008 aug 19.

in practice it is usually the mind stat which determines how high a soldier progresses. if your soldiers are retards, then they are not destined for high office.
there is a minimum number of foes they must slay to get a rank. and a maximum number of bystanders they must have avoided killing.

I've been getting paranoid because all my soldiers are still stuck at rifleman. Is there any known bug having to do with this?
