Request - "Turbo" button on geoscape
« on: June 30, 2008, 03:38:30 pm »
It might be nice to have a "Turbo" or "Max Speed" button on the time controls, opposite of the "Stop Time" button.  From playing the game, I recall plenty of times when I've started/equipped/configured everything I needed to in my bases and I want to simply increase the time rate until something happens.

For the air combat, perhaps this button could change into a "disengage" button that zooms everything back out to the normal view, so the player could attend to some other matter (for example, going to a base menu screen, loading/saving a game, etc).

You can press escape for that right now. There will be a button eventually.

Now that I think about it, it might also be nice to change the scale of the speeds in air combat, meaning they range in smaller increments and don't go all the way up to a day.  I've found that the slowest speed for air combat above paused is a little too slow and the next one up is too fast, IMO.

stevenjackson and I have been over that, too. The plan so far is to scale it from 5 seconds to 10 seconds, then 1 minute and then 5 minutes.

to get things going fast, i just tap [m] repeatedly. things accelerate quite fast enough.

we should be wary of cluttering the screen with too many buttons.

I've actually done that with the keyboard, the problem I run into is accidentally speeding things up again when something happens because I was pressing the key more than once quickly - having a max speed button, or at least a keyboard key that does it in one press would still be nice.
