Save file Size Mismatch error
« on: August 14, 2007, 03:27:08 am »
Hello...I did a search to try and avoid a redundant post but didn't see anything....but here's my issue....when I try to save it tells me Size Mismatch error or something like that....given that I'm running Ubuntu Feisty and am just learning my way around the Debian realm it may be some broken dependency....everything else runs fine....not a whole heck of alot of sound but I hear gunshots and such....runs smooth all is well....except I can't save....anyone know what's going on there?......I installed SDL_ttf after the game install because I didn't realize I didn't have it until  I tried to start up the first time but not sure that would have a whole lot to do with it....
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.....I'm loving the game so far but obviously saving the campaign is a really nice thing to be able to do

it looks like you don't have permissions to write into the savegame dirs - see the last lines of the output and check the permissions for every of those directories

Actually yeah....I was hopping on to report the fact that upon waking up today decided to try "sudo ufoai" for spits and giggles....so yeah that worked....basically the game isn't being given privileges to write it's own save file....well....bit of a nuisance....
...Even more so with Ubuntu....had to take a long road around using "gksu" to run a nautilus window in order to change the permissions on the folder.....but it's done.....thanks for the help though....

This is moronic that I have to start the game but writing 'sudo ufoai' rather than just 'ufoai' to be able to save. How am I supposed to create a menu or desktop shortcut, huh?

PROBLEM SOLVED!

All you need to do to be able to save games while starting game as a normal user using 'ufoai' is:

After installing the game you have to switch to root and give full access rights to the folder /home/<user>/.ufoai to the user.

I did it using Gnome Commander starting it with 'sudo gnome-commander' and now I can save games without having to start the game from the root account :P

Thank you :)

did you start the game the first time from within the installer? and did you start the installer as root or installed it system wide?

He's been over this with Tron. The conclusion was that there must be a problem with the installer. Log here: http://pastebin.com/f26d0100
