Q: Euipment lost when soldier dies?
« on: October 23, 2007, 04:33:41 pm »
Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and quite new to "UFO AI". As I have enjoyed the original "UFO - Enemy Unknown" very much I have to say "Great work, Thanks a lot!"

One question I have (have searched the forum and did not find a matching topic) concerns the equipment of a fallen soldier. When soldiers die their equipment drops and can be picked up by other soldiers. But, what happens to equipment that is not picked up? It seems to be lost.

Is that right?

Is that intended or a bug?

It would be great if unowned equipment is retrieved when you complete a mission successfully.

Best regards

that should be the case - if it's lost its a bug in CL_ParseResults (cl_team.c) resp. INV_CollectingItems (cl_inventory.c)

A friend of mine confirms that he is not losing any equipment. We are both using the latest Windows binary release.

But I started with 3-4 assault rifles (Sturmgewehre in German version at standard difficulty) and currently have only 1 left (including equipment currently carried by soldiers).

Confirmation for 2.2-dev-071019: equipment of died soldiers is lost.

I've lost equipment when a soldier was stunned.

One possibility for losing the equipment of died soldiers might be that the equipment actually is retrieved from the battlefield but automatically is sold.

Could this be the case?

No! Someone already wrote: he had have 4 rifles in the beginning, and after 3 deaths he left with only one rifle.

I had have 8 IR-goggles before mission, after 2 sodires died I have only 6 goggles (auto-selling of IRG turned OFF of course!)

I guess, it was myself who wrote that.  ;)

Yes, that's what I experienced. But why couldn't it be that your googles have been retrieved and automatically been sold as loot? I don't know if that's the reason. I'm just guessing.

I had edited the post: "auto-selling of IRG is turned OFF of course".
Or 2.2dev-071019 counts ANYTHING salvaged on the battlefield as loot?
