Money / Currency / Credits

As in feature request[ 1740908 ] formatting of numbers http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1740908&group_id=157793&atid=805245:
Currently there is no formatting of monetary numbers. Readability could be improved by applying formatting. Therefore requesting your opinion on the alternatives

to be credits or not to be
Currently the currency used is "credits" as in credits: 20000000000 c.
We do have the option to choose credits as currency or we can choose the local currency hold by the LC_MONETARY variable. thus giving us $123,456 ,

the currency used in the ufo:ai universe is "credits" - there should not be any dollar or euro or whatever - just credits for every translation.

though the number formatting would be very cool - definitly

AARGH, half of the post is gone :(
ill summerize the other part:

Whatever currency we use, there still is number formatting. But this is also regional. In the US they format a number like 12,345.7 while in Belgium they format it as 12.345,7. Also the sign is often on a different place.
We can use the same locale to answer that, to give each player the formatting he is used to.

Regarding credits:
the short form of credit  is "c". I propose to change this to "cr" for "c" means also "cents", in this case as in "credit cents", thus 1/100 of a credit.

we don't even use cents - so changing this is kind of pointless imo -but that number formatting would be cool

I think he meant people will confuse the 'c' as cents because thats the first thing that comes to their minds, and I think he's got a point there. Of course there is no logic inconsistency, but writing 'cr.' or 'cs.' or something will make it clear that this is not the sign for 'cents'.
