1st tank model

<< < (3/3)

Winter:
The redesigned tank looks a lot more dangerous in my opinion. Good job.

The reason why the camo doesn't cover the top properly is because the model isn't UV-mapped right. You need to UV-map the top and bottom separately from the sides.

Winter

inquisiteur2:
ok improved camo
reduced ploycount to 3000 (blender says VE 2806 & 3066) (is that ok ?) - without wheels polycount is 2000 but I have no idea what to use else than cilenders (tracks are ok)
corrected major flaws
that's what we ve got

regarding the coilgun I have no idea how to design it. I read a little bit, there should be acceleration chambers somewhere, in the cannon or in the tank ?

Anyway if the model is satisfactory for Winter I will submit it.

Do I have to put shadows & lights on it or is this handled by the game engine ?

Winter:
It will need some proper texturing by a texture artist. I'll be starting a thread later on with a bunch of untextured models, so please post it there once the thread's up.

Regards,
Winter

Notes on the 3D Model and optimization for in-game use:

Good start, but before you go unwrap the UVs and go through all that hassle:

Remove the treads, they'll be handled by a texture, same goes for the wheels.  Remember that polycount is an issue, it always is.  Where a minute detail could be handled by something else, let it.  Otherwise for high-polygonned pre rendered graphics you'd want to render the wheels.

If you might, you could consider taking a look at these as reference on the US Armies MCS system.

Infantry Carrier:

Israeli Merkava Mark IV

The People's Army Type 99 0 (China)

Non line of sight mobile cannon:

I hope these help you out in your quest.  Whenever  I have to make up something new and futuristic, I always try to draft it out first, so I can work out all my bugs, and then I work from that.

You may consider removing or adding new features, such as a new type of track system battle hardened in the Chinese civil war, of 2050something or even a new system based on gatteling railguns, which I've seen drawings of, yikes!

inquisiteur2:
I need to get into serious modelling lessons to reach the quality of your mentionned models

Thx for the tip regarding wells, im gonna post a version without them then. I consider this model finished even if it is not totally futuristic, instead of amending it massively It would prefer creating a futuristic model from scratch. Anyway in some developping countries you can still find old tank models (cherman, T-60, etc...) this model could be used in that case.

I will definitly look on your references for my next model.

Thx very much and regards,
