ALSA sound is chopping
« on: June 14, 2007, 08:20:56 pm »
When I choose OSS as sound system, all is fine. But with ALSA sound is chopping and wheezing.
In SVN 9088 version it's possible even to hang UFOai (when I try to switch sound system from alsa->oss or oss->alsa etc). Or when I switch from alsa to oss, there is no sound at all. In console there is "/dev/dsp is busy" message. So I have to restart UFOai to sound appear. But it happens not every time.
But ALSA chopping sounds produce at all frequencies.

alsa is for low latency sound cards - use sdl or oss if you encounter problem

Is it possible to "repair" it?
What we have now? In linux I can't use ALSA, so I can't hear system sound at all (ICQ message coming, DVD is recorded, etc.).
In addition, I can't switch from UFOai to another application by pressing Alt-Tab (ctrl-tab, and so on). It's simply doesn't work (Zenerka propose press `, and then try to switch. Sorry, it doesn't work either).
And in UFOai we HAVE_NO save function in the middle of the mission!
So I have to end game after EVERY mission, exit from UFOai and check mail, etc...
I hope I've describe all the picture... 8-/

start ufo via ./ufo +set vid_grabmouse 0

there will be no mid-mission saving

use alsa via SDL
