umh... what language?

try revision 1393 (or later =) ) it has updated font versions
or if don't use SVN try to download fonts manually from http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/ and http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/freefont/

Japanese.

When I know, Free UCS Outline Fonts and DejaVu fonts don't contain CJK codes.

That's probably a tough one. On Linux, Japanese characters are encoded with the EUC-JP charset, and on Windows, it's SHIFT-JIS. That makes it hard to add support for Japanese to the engine.

That would be the solution, yes. You should add it to the feature request tracker.

You'll also need to put all your data files in utf-8, and read them correctly (so gettext needs to support it too; don't know if it does already). It's not just a matter of supporting it font-side.

And then you need the glyphs, of course. If Arkblade is right, and the current fonts don't have the Japanese character glyphs, then you'll have to find a font that does.

that's right - we maybe need another font - but everything else should already be included.

I know that Windows has the MS Gothic and MS Mincho fonts for Japanese text. They're not GPL, obviously, but I do believe you can download them from the MS website for free.

They don't look appropriate for UFO:AI at all, though.
