How to measure range?
« on: September 07, 2008, 09:20:51 pm »
I've been playing the game for several days now (about 2 months game-time) and I was just going through my arsenal one fine morning.

This list was what struck me:

Kerrblade - 0
Laser Pistol - 60
Machinegun - 70
Sniper Rifle - 250

Now, I understand the 0 range of a kerrblade and other knives means that I can use it within a distance of 1 cube from my unit, but the other weapons?
Is there a fixed relation between:
1) the distance between my unit and the alien (i.e. the number of cubes)
and
2) the range of weapon?

if yes, what would be the ratio? (e.g 1 cube = 1 range)
if no, then, are the ranges of weapons only for comparative purposes between them?

This question might have or have not been asked before, but it would be nice if you could give a little briefing about weapons to an UFO:AI newbie...Thank you!

see http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/UFO-Scripts/weapon_*.ufo for info about it - there should a range entry, too

In units of map squares (fields). One square is 4 feet, approximately 1.3 metres.

is what i found... had to look around lol cause the linky did not work.  Hope that helps you man.

BTW just having discovered this game and being an xcom fan all i must say good job everyone that has worked on this.

I guess the range is measured in feet with 4 feet = 1 square and a typical map size of ~200x200 ft

I have just found out that 1 range = 1 box. Anyway, thanks for the help!
