Game crashes entering UFO site
« on: June 01, 2007, 07:56:21 pm »
Hi all,

I have a very nice and very reproducible bug with 2.1.1. When I click on enter after sending my troop on an ufo site the game crashes opening a debugger dialog window.
If someone is interested I can send any information and savegame: just tell me where the files stands...

regards
PMA

http://www.imageshack.com is good for screenshots, like the 'ASSERTATION FAILED' message that will come up.

http://www.rapidshare.com I've started to like for internet shared file storage.  There's also http://www.filecloud.com.

Oh yeah, they're all free.

Sorry, my problem is: where to find the files on my hardrive. Ufoai is saving the games in its own cumbersome way. I don't wan't to dwelve on that. So my question can be formulated as "where is the file containing info from saving slot N"

In case of 'assertion failed' problems, we (coders) do not need screenshot, but the info printed in there. That is:
* assert expression, with which the problem is being hit
* file name, where the problem is being hit
* line number, where the problem is being hit
So i believe that posting such info (like: "curTeam >=0", cl_team:666) is better and easier than just showing the screenie in that case.

I had this too - seems to be caused by a corrupt away team.
Using another dropship worked.
The team from first base crashed on other sites, too.
I de/re-equipped their weapons and armors and removed the new plasma 25mm grenades, and the problem was gone. Error message:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Assertion failed!

Program: E:\Games\UFOAI-2.1.1\ufo.exe
File: ../../src/client/cl_team.c
Line: 613

Expression: cp

For information on how your program can cause an assertion
failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts

(Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled)

What do you mean ? You want the text of the poping up window but not the screenshot right ? The point is that it is not possible (at least on my computer ) to copy/past this text. I don't understand the problem you have with screenshots.  Unless you want some other kind of information. In this cast I'll gladly provide it. Just tell me what you mean by "in there".

I don't have any problems with such screenshots. I am just telling that looking at the error box and posting needed info from that text is for sure faster than making a screenshot and publishing it. But if anyone prefers doing screenie, oh well, I don't mind.

Hi,

I was afraid that the posted information may not be convenient. In my own cases crashes prevents most action with the computer making even hand copy of the error message almost impossible... And since I can't run ufoai under a decent OS by lack of driver, I may keep with those screenshots.

regards.
