Exit to Desktop Problem with Ati 9800 (Linux x86_64)

(1/1)

swodah77:
Hi to you all and thanks for the great game.

I managed to compile the game version 2.1 under Ubuntu 7.04 AMD64 using the latest build tools etc ( gcc 4.1.2 ...) and the instructions at http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Compile_for_Linux  (and Debian section...)

The game runs nice and smooth but there's one minor problem when exiting the game. The game resolution is preserved so that if I play the game with 1024x768 and have desktop of 1600x1200 the desktop remains as 1024x768 but is scrollable at 1600x1200. So the original resolution is not fully recovered.  As said only a minor annoyance to switch desktop resolution back and forth after game, but still...

I'm using:

Gnome desktop
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9800 Pro
OpenGL version string: 2.0.6334 ( 8.34.8 )

swodah77:
I applied the changes suggested above ( [ 1626363 ] remove endless loop in main / also fixes a segfault ) - but unfortunately no improvement on this problem...

I'll try to find some time to dig a bit deeper...

Dug a bit and found out the origin of the following error:

--- Quote ---
X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  135 (XFree86-VidModeExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request:  10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode)

Bug hunt led finally to call  of XCloseDisplay(dpy) in GLimp_Shutdown() (gl_glx.c) (started from call of VID_Shutdown() in CL_Shutdown (cl_main.c)...
Might be that dpy is not valid display or smthing is not released before trying to release the current display (or the initial state of X is lost)...

I'm not experienced enough to do much more (and if this is strictly xlib related...) so my current fixes are following:

Play the game at the desktop resolution
or
make a startup script that calls xrandr  after the execution of ufo. Eg in my case there is only two lines in the script "run_ufo" (remember to: chmod 755 run_ufo ):

--- Code: ---
./ufo
xrandr -s 1

--- End code ---

the "1" is the screen mode I want to change to after the game (invoke simply xrandr to see the available modes...)

Hope that this helps if some one has the same problem...
