Good idea! Could anybody browse through these (and other) sources and actually choose 3 for each role and post links here, so that we can discuss and choose the winners? Thanks!

Thanks a lot! But...

Geoscape Popup:

Just a few suggestions for my first post  here!

Could someone enumerate exactly what "new weapons" need sounds?  I made a lot of sounds (hundreds) for Vultures' that never made it into the game, so I could search through them.  Quite the variety, really.  Things that could be weapons firing, reloading, things that could be aliens moving, fighting, chatting amongst themselves, the sound of putting on or removing armor of different types, strange level ambiance, things burning, etc.

Yep.  I was their graphics artist for a good while, and I still maintain (albeit not as well as I should!) the rpm package for it.

just see the TODO list in our wiki - there are some listed - or join the irc channel and discuss which sounds are needed or need updates.

Well, I've now got sounds for everything that was missing them, and I've hooked them into the weapons*.ufo files.  I've also got some more sounds for things that weren't requested but might be wanted at a later point in time (alien sounds, ambient noises, etc).

Unfortunately, I have a backlog on patches -- I have one pending for my improvements to the nation-funding system, so I can't just do an SVN diff.  Want to wait for that patch to clear out, or want me to tar up the changed files and send them somewhere?

Just to make sure: are all the sounds of known legal status? If they are yours, under what licence do you release them? Can you write somewhere (e.g. here) about where they come from, so that it does not get lost in time?

About your patch: you can safely make svn diff and send it to sf. Patches for UFO:AI are usually applied by hand, divided into commits, reviewed, etc...

They're all independently developed, although on a few, I used existing UFO sounds as one of the component sounds to edit to make sure that they sounded similar (I.e., to make sure that my tachyon weapons sounded like the old ones, etc).  Those are thus automatically GPLed; naturally, I hereby GPL the others as well.  :)  Some of them were sounds (or were based on sounds) that I did for theVulture's project, but again, those were already GPLed (by me).

I will go ahead and SVN diff later today.  Oy, a lot of stuff is going to end up in these patches.  :P

Oh, great! Go ahead. I will commit it ASAP, because we badly need the sounds (and a sensible assignment of them to weapons in the scripts). Don't worry about any other things in the patch --- I have to review your code anyway, for compliance with coding guidlines (on the wiki), our script conventions, etc., so there is no problem about the extra stuff. BTW, I may actually swipe something useful from the other code, if your SVN checkout is not too outdated.

P.S. BTW, do you code in emacs?

I have "roundstart.wav" created now, to finish up the set.  You can get it at:

Got it! (Will commit when sf is up again.)

Noble forum admins, could you unstick this thread and edit the first article? All our sound needs for 2.0 and beyond are covered by Rei's work. Let's move on to other things!
