This is a crash bug that can be reproduced as follows:

- Start up a singleplayer game, build a base and enter a tactical mission (for example by using /map).
- While in the mission, press escape and select "exit".
- In the main menu, press the multiplayer button.

Since this doesn't happen when you do it from the geoscape, I think this is a problem with map loading rather than the singleplayer game.
