On battlescape, we have various options to send messages to the player, e.g. using the misc_message entity or the build-in message in the misc_mission entity.

However, this is very restricted, because the message fades out way too fast and there is no obvious way for the player to bring it back. Only way is to move the actor out and than back to trigger the message again. But it might go away without being noticed by the player, too.

To be usable within our maps, this needs to be improved. I would prefer to have it handled the same way as the geoscape message system. One line, showing the last message, when hoovering with the mouse the full message list pops up.

In my opinion this improvement is necessary to make the more advanced stuff (misc_mission, trigger_nextmap) usable within the battlescape.

A popup window can become annoying, because the message will be triggered everytime a soldier moves into the entity enerytime on the map. You move soldier one, close the popup, move soldier two, close the popup, ... If one plays the map a second time the messages are already known and I would not like to click back useless messages like ten times everytime on a map.

I would also like a proper message log on the battlescape. Good way to keep track of events if I get distracted when it's not my turn (very useful for multiplayer, too, where I may be waiting several minutes between turns).

a message bar system similar to what is seen in geoscape would be good.
